A Road to Nowhere
Coming November 2026
Eighty-seven. Twenty-three. Two lives heading nowhere, or so they think…
A darkly funny, deeply humane novel about loneliness, ageing, and the strange ways people keep each other alive.
About the book
Des Hill is eighty-seven, in good health, and ready to die.
His Catholic faith has long deserted him, his family is gone, and the only visitors to his house are a stray fox and a German priest who enjoys self-help books and pinot noir. When a doctor cheerfully predicts another decade of life, Des decides it’s time to take matters into his own hands.
Ty Malone has no idea what to do with his own life. At twenty-three, he drifts between temp jobs and borrowed couches—until he finds himself cleaning Des’s house one afternoon. Their reluctant arrangement quickly turns stranger: Des asks Ty to help him die.
As their unlikely friendship grows, the plan spirals through misadventures, misunderstandings, and a cast of equally lost souls. Along the way, both men discover that life has a habit of becoming meaningful again when you least expect it.
